ASSIGNMENT

Concept and development of a candy brand and packaging inspired by a historical art or design movement.

Maximalism is a design and art approach that embraces visual abundance, excess, and richness, rejecting the restraint of minimalism.

It is characterized by dense composition, saturated color, layered patterns, bold typography, and ornamentation used intentionally rather than sparingly. With Kosa, I wanted to take a South-Asian twist. Drawn from my familial experiences of gifting relatives sweet boxes and sarees when we visited, I wanted to combine both aspects of my gifting culture into a box inspired by regional flavors and print. Inside the box are six flavors, each with paper wrappers featuring patterns from the corresponding region. The exterior of the box is decorative and silver foiled, matching the vark logomark on all the sweets.

For the singles box, I wanted the maximalism of both the sweet and paper wrapper to shine, so I made most of it a thick clear glass material. The base is a complementary color to the sweet flavor, and so is the sticker label on top.
